If (like many people) you refuse to go to 4E D&D, but look at what is available for 3.5 and see a logical endpoint because there is no support for it anymore the you can always try Pathfinder
Not that I am going to play it, but I downloaded the free beta copy (over 400 pages of goodies) and already found a few ideas to adapt to my other games.

Honestly though, any sort of evolution away from their beloved 3.5 is going to be a step too far for some people.
ReplyDeleteAnd then others, who may like some of the changes, still aren't going to bother reading up on this because it's just more rules to get in the way of their lifelong goal of not knowing the rules that they run games to.
Ok yes, I admit the last one is me. 8)
The rules are the reason I opted out of 3.5 a long time before 4e. It really did feel like (sometimes) the players vs. the DM
ReplyDeleteNot knowing the rules of the games they run... that could sometimes be me. I like to wing it sometimes.
ReplyDeleteIf you like to wing it then rules light games (like savage worlds) are for you, but you already know that. Having said that you like to wing it leads me to believe that you won't be running Scion as is anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteI'm probably going to get in trouble for this, but I like 3.0 best. Wasn't crazy about 3.5 and realllllly don't like 4.0
ReplyDeleteCan't comment on previous version having never played them.
3.0 was great at first and I also liked 3.5 for a while, but then I tired of the sameness of it. I wonder what the reasons were for a change from 3.0 to 3.5.
